"Special Olympics athletes are spokespersons for freedom to live, the freedom to belong, the freedom to contribute, the freedom to have a chance. And, of all the values that write and inspire us to seek a better world, no value holds a higher place than the value of freedom."
-Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Founder of Special Olympics-
It is not enough for the teacher to love the child. She must first love and understand the universe. She must prepare herself, and truly work at it.
-Maria Montessori, Founder of Montessori Schools-
"My passion stems from my personal experience."
"I always wanted to enter education. Fortunately, I entered Early Childhood Education."
"We have a unique opportunity to shape a young life and that is why I am so passionate about this field."
-Sandy Escobido, Deputy Field Director Los Angeles Preschool Advocacy Initiative California Community
Foundation-
These quotes touched my heart because they say what I believe will make me a more effective Early Childhood Educator.
"It takes a village to raise a child." -African Proverb-
Hello! I was pulled toward Sandy Escobido's words, because as early childhood professionals, we do have an opportunity to shape a young child's life. My own passion has led me to believe that this is, slso, our responsibility. Everything we do in the classroom, including room set-up, the toys we purchase, and so much more, have an affect on our children. If we are having a bad day, we need to be strong enough not to bring these feelings into the classroom, because these little individuals deserve a classroom learning atmosphere that is safe and free of stress. Although it's a huge responsibility, I would not change it for the world. I think it's a gift to be able to work with these young children and have such an impact on them for the rest of their lives.
ReplyDeleteI was drawn toward Eunice Kennedy Shriver's quote about Special Olympics participants. The district I work in hosts an annual athletic competition for surrounding school districts' life-skills classes. I take my class every year. There are no words for the feeling I get when I see these children of all ages and abilities compete in so many different athletic activities. There are looks of pride, confidence and the sense of freedom on every child's face. It is an amazing sight! Thank you for sharing this quote, as it reminds me why we do what we do!
ReplyDeleteI also quoted Sandy Escobido in my blog. I think the idea of being able to shape a child's life is such a huge concept, some might be afraid of the idea, but I feel privileged to have the responsibility and honored to be able to challenge myself every day to meet the needs of the children in my care.
ReplyDeleteI also love the African proverb, "it takes a village to rasie a child". I think that might be one fo the best quotes to represent our job as ealry childhood educators. It completely supports the idea of making connections with the families and community in which we teach. We can not do it alone, we need to work together!
I like the quote by Maria Montessori, and I think that the Montessori schools are a good institution.Early Childhood Educations must truly have passion, for children and believe that they can succeed.
ReplyDeleteThe quote by Motessori explains how thngs are not going to be easy. We must love what we are doing then understand whats going on in the universe. We have to experience things from our on point of view before we view the worlds point of view. Great quote!!!
